The Dumfries and
Galloway Construction Industry Forum has
been established to promote the construction industry,
provide links between contractors,
clients and support agencies, ensure that local
companies
benefit from the high levels of investment planned
for the region and facilitate a series of events
around information and awareness raising sessions relevant
to the construction
industry. |
Some 6% of
Dumfries and Galloway’s workforce, more than
3000 people, is employed in the construction industry.Turnover
for the construction sector in the region, including
road building, is estimated at around £200 million
a year.
Additional investment planned for the region over the
next five years includes projects totalling more than
£400 million including the Schools PPP, Stranraer
Waterfront, DGHP Housing Stock Refurbishment, Decommissioning
of Chapelcross and the Solway Offshore Wind Farm development.
Growing
skills shortages and a poor
image are threatening the
construction industry in Dumfries
and Galloway and will have
an impact on the local economy
and communities.
